A little about the city we pray for...

Picture

Located in Western Pennsylvania, Ellwood City was originally established to connect the railroad from Pittsburgh to Chicago through the industrial towns of New Castle, Youngstown and the west. It wasn't long, however, before "Ellwood" grew to be an  industrial center in its own right.

Founded in 1892 by Henry W. Hartman, the borough was named after Isaac Ellwood, an inventor of barbed wire. The Community grew rapidly with the development of the seamless tube industry. The first seamless steel tubes in America were pierced in Ellwood City in 1895 by inventor, Ralph Stiefel.

The area flourished as an industrial city through two world wars and into the 1970;s. with the decline of heavy industry, smaller, more environmentally friendly companies replaced older factories. Still, Ellwood City remains the corporate headquarters for several companies.

Residents also continue to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Local and state parks provide opportunities for fishing, cycling, boating, nature walks, and hunting. The area is a popular spot for shopping, antiquing and touring historic homes, as well as for  world-class golf and motor cross.

Dayspring prays for Ellwood City and the surrounding area every Wednesday night at 7 PM as well as blowing the shofar over the city each Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM. Prayer walks, research about the city, unity services and community outreach are a part of the efforts to see the area come into the redemptive gifts given by God.
